Historical InformationThe George Mason University Department of History was actively involved in the promotion and documentation of Northern Virginia history during the 1970s and 1980s. As other local history organizations became more involved in Northern Virginia history, the history department ceased collecting material. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentThis collection contains materials on the history of Northern Virginia, including "Northern Virginia Heritage," a George Mason University local history journal from the 1980s, a few dozen issues of "The Courier," newsletter for the Northern Virginia Association of Historians, and eight boxes of newsclippings dating from 1911-1970, which were compiled by the GMU History Department in the 1970s.
