Biographical Information

Eugenie Vorburger Mielczarek was the first woman physicist at George Mason University and served on several faculty committees. She has written on biophysics and on women in the sciences. Her publications include two books: 'Iron, Nature's Universal Element: Why People Need Iron and Animals Make Magnets,' coauthored with Sharon Bertsch McGrayne; and 'Biological Physics,' coedited with Elias Greenbaum and Robert S. Knox. Mielczarek passed away at the age of 86 on June 26, 2017.
